Owl Pellets
Today we had the opportunity to work with real owl pellets! We ordered owl pellets that came from Vancouver, Washington and today we dissected them! The owls in this area often eat vole's - here is the bone structure of the vole!

Students had a great time pulling apart the fur to reveal real bones of the small rodents the owl has eaten. Here are some pictures of our experience and the bones we found.

We discussed the food chain, introducing two new vocabulary words, predator and prey. Please ask your child what a predator and prey are.

Please ask your child to finish these sentences:
An owl is a ______ (predator or prey) because _______________.

A vole is a ______ (predator or prey) because _______________.
