Arbor Day

In celebration of Arbor Day which is on Thursday, Alberta Environment has provided Grade One students across Alberta with a tree seedling to take home and plant. Planting tree seedlings provides a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about plants and add more trees to Alberta’s landscape.

We used our 5 senses to feel the roots and seedlings. It connects directly to the objectives of Alberta’s Grade One Science Unit, “Needs of Animals and Plants”.

Here are some questions you can ask your child:
Why are trees important?
What do trees and plants need to live?
Why do you think it's important to plant trees?
How can you tell how old a tree is? Here is a hint!
